Why camouflage yourself when hunting waterfowl?<\/h2>\r\nDucks, Canada geese, and snow geese in particular are extremely wary birds. \u00c9ric Martineau stresses that they are often described as \u00ab\u00a0educated&amp;nbsp as they have learnt to spot hunters. Hence the importance of a perfect setup and a well-chosen camouflage to lure your prey.\r\n\r\nDespite their two-dimensional vision, the three species mentioned above do have an acute sense of observation. Most of the time, these birds will fly around decoys several times on reconnaissance tours before feeling confident enough to land anywhere nearby. To avoid being spotted as they approach, it is important to shield your skin and eyes from sight. Skin colour enormously stands out a natural or camouflaged background. Which is why it is recommended to cover your head with a hood and to wear face paint specific to waterfowl hunting. On this type of hunt, sense of smell isn\u2019t something hunters have to worry about.\r\n\r\nHowever, when it comes to their sense of hearing, birds do have a very sensitive ear. As they approach, it is crucial to remain quiet\u2026 While still enjoying the show!\r\n\r\nOlder birds will be harder to foil as they have become more experienced over the years. They will also stop younger birds from making the mistake of landing if any danger is detected.\r\n<h2 id=\"section-2\">2. Which camouflage pattern to wear for waterfowl hunting?<\/h2>\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sail.ca\/en\/lacrosse-mallard-ii-men-s-hunting-waders-660623\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img class=\"size-full wp-image-10227 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sail.ca\/blog\/app\/uploads\/2022\/06\/chasse_oiseaux_migrateurs_combinaison_550x8502-1.jpg\" alt=\"Men\u2019s Hunting Waders for waterfowl hunting\" width=\"550\" height=\"850\" \/><\/a>\r\n\r\nWhen it comes to waterfowl hunting, there is really only one suitable type of camouflage. From the beginning to the end of the season, expert \u00c9ric Martineau recommends the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sail.ca\/en\/shop?q=Realtree\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Realtree<\/a> Max-5 pattern.\r\n\r\nIt is also possible to go hunting wearing natural colours such as browns, kakis or dark greens. Just avoid the kind of artificial colours that aren\u2019t found in nature, such as blues or reds.\r\n\r\nDuring the winter, if hunting out in the open, it\u2019s important to wear white to blend in with the snow. Ideally, opt for a protective suit such as a Tyvek\u00ae suit.\r\n<h2 id=\"section-3\">3. Which clothes to pick for waterfowl hunting?<\/h2>\r\n<h3>Underwear<\/h3>\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sail.ca\/en\/hypnose-squall-men-s-hunting-long-sleeve-baselayer-506675\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img class=\"size-full wp-image-10228 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sail.ca\/blog\/app\/uploads\/2022\/06\/chasse_oiseaux_migrateurs_sous_vetements_550x8504-1.jpg\" alt=\"Underwear for waterfowl hunting\" width=\"550\" height=\"850\" \/><\/a>\r\n\r\nAs with any outdoors activity, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sail.ca\/blog\/layering-the-art-of-staying-warm-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">layering<\/a> works best. Merino wool is particularly recommended for this. They provide great insulation while keeping your feet dry (and toasty warm) during rainy or muddy outings.\r\n\r\nBrands <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sail.ca\/en\/hunting\/hunting-boots#\/filter:manufacturer:BAFFIN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Baffin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sail.ca\/en\/hunting\/hunting-boots#\/filter:manufacturer:LACROSSE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LaCrosse<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sail.ca\/en\/hunting\/hunting-boots#\/filter:manufacturer:BOGS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bogs<\/a> have selections of neoprene rubber boots that are worth considering. Try on a few so you can choose the most comfortable ones for you. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sail.ca\/en\/hunting\/hunting-clothing\/accessories\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gaiters<\/a> can also add warmth and keep your legs and feet dry.\r\n<h2>A few pro-tips<\/h2>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Waterfowl hunting involves remaining still for a certain amount of time (from several minutes to a few hours).
