Winter hikes to do in Quebec<\/span><\/h2>\r\n\r\n

1. Lac\u2011Simon Tourist Center in Duhamel, Outaouais<\/span><\/h3>\r\n\r\nDuring winter, there are more than 17 km of trails divided into ten paths where hundreds of white-tailed deer can be spotted near the lake at the Centre Touristique du Lac-Simon. And of course, as you may have guessed, hiking trails give you the opportunity to go and see them for yourself. Winter hikes to do in Ontario<\/span><\/h2>\r\n\r\n

1. Presqu\u2019\u00eele Provincial Park in Brighton, Northumberland County\r\n<\/span><\/h3>\r\nThe first thing you\u2019ll notice is the ice accumulated along Lake Ontario that create ice volcanoes, little icebergs and other magical phenomena. Winter is also the best season to spot a red fox, wild turkey, or river otter. \r\n3. Killarney Provincial Park in Killarney, Sudbury<\/span><\/h3>\r\n\r\nLonging for the unknown? At Killarney Provincial Park, renowned for its pink quartzite ridges and sapphire-blue lakes, the parts of the park that are accessible only during winter are 33 kilometers of trails where you are invited to experience winter camping and ornithology. Otherwise, try the Chikanishing trail wearing your cross-country skis. Point Pelee National Park in Leamington, Essex\r\n<\/span><\/h3>\r\nAt this Canadian National Park, a peninsula in Lake Erie which is a host to dozens of little animals, you can explore the trails and listen to the birds \u2013 close to 50 different species can be seen between December and May. Expert tips for winter hiking<\/h2>\r\n\r\n

  1. When planning out your hike, think about fitting in walking time according to season. During winter, with or without snowshoes, getting around is always longer and more tiring, due to snow and cold. Days are also shorter, and you don\u2019t want to get caught walking too far out in the dark.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  2. Finding your way can also get tricky when landmarks may be covered in snow. Remember to be safe and vigilant.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  3. Speaking of safety, take the time to assess potential risks of the cold season. We\u2019re not only talking about avalanches, but also holes that may have been covered by snow and thus, no longer visible at first glance. A tree root may trip you up, and keep your eyes peeled for icy conditions as well.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  4. It\u2019s also crucial to stay hydrated \u2013 so an insulated bottle<\/a> containing a warm beverage is a good idea (keep it in the bottom of your bag to avoid it becoming frozen). It\u2019s more difficult to recognize thirst during the colder months, so be wary about this. Also consider slipping some snacks<\/a> in your backpack<\/a>.\r\n<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n
