Basically, if you don't know and understand the bird's habitat, you're just hunting randomly.\r\nAt the beginning of the season, aim for trails and ATV paths (with vegetation cover) that don't appear too busy.\r\nRuffed grouse need to eat every day, so you will find them wherever they can find something to put in their beaks. During their first few weeks, they feed on insects, then gradually switch to a more plant-based diet as the season progresses (buds, fruit, mushrooms, tender grass, etc.). Your senses are fully alert, you choose your direction, your pace\u2026 In a car or on a bike, you cover more territory, but focusing your attention on driving keeps you from fully observing the environment around you. You just have to find out what you like best. Ruffed grouse hunting can also be done with a dog, although it\u2019s not a requirement.
