This fully self-supported expedition spans several days. The trips aren\u2019t overly technical (you don\u2019t need specific touring kayak training, for instance). That said, you do need to have enough experience to know how to get in and out of the kayak, etc.\r\nSelf-supported expeditions require full commitment from the travellers: strong group spirit is a must! An expedition wouldn\u2019t be the same without everyone pitching in. Travellers help set up camp, prepare dinners, and more.\r\nIt's also important to remember that Mother Nature often dictates the pace of an expedition, so you need to be patient\u2026 and well equipped!\r\n<h3>What\u2019s the temperature in Greenland?<\/h3>\r\nIt's a common misconception that Greenland is extremely cold. In reality, it's often bright and sunny, with minimal darkness, which helps moderate the sensation of being cold.\r\n<h3>What preparation is needed?<\/h3>\r\nYou should, of course, base your training on the type of trip you\u2019re planning.\r\nFor a touring kayak trip, we recommend training as often as possible to feel comfortable on the water and with handling the paddle.\r\nFor a trek, you can practise walking on a variety of surfaces: rocks, mud, inclines and so on.\r\nThe most important thing is to be used to camping.\r\n<h3>When is the right time to visit Greenland?<\/h3>\r\nIn the summer! Choose high-quality hiking boots with good ankle support, freshly waterproofed, and if new, thoroughly \u201cbroken in\u201d to prevent blisters. Be sure to also pack a pair of supportive walking sandals with grippy outsoles.\r\n\r\n[caption id=\"attachment_21696\" align=\"alignnone\" width=\"1080\"]<img class=\"wp-image-21696 size-full\" BLEAU[\/caption]\r\n\r\nHere's what we recommend in addition to that:\r\n\r\n<strong>To stay dry<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>A waterproof-breathable jacket and pants (Gore-Tex or equivalent) to wear over other layers of clothing for protection against humidity, rain and wind<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Neoprene socks to keep your feet warm while crossing icy river fords<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A dry bag to keep your gear safe from water and humidity<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Water-resistant pouches or plastic bags in various sizes to keep your things dry at all times<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A waterproof rain cover to cover your backpack in case of rain<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Hiking socks (be sure to try them on before your trip to ensure they stay in place and effectively protect against humidity, cold\u2026 and blisters!)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>To stay warm<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>A light wool or synthetic tuque<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A wool jacket, with or without a zipper<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Warm and comfortable socks<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A warm, insulating fleece jacket (Polartec\u00ae 200 or equivalent)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A moderately insulated down jacket<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>To stay shielded from the elements<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>A cap or hat, preferably made from synthetic materials for quicker drying<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A Buff\u00ae-type scarf to protect your head and neck from the sun and wind<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Thin merino wool or synthetic t-shirts, to wear as a baselayer or on their own on warmer days<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>For the multi-layer system<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Comfortable, quick-drying underwear (avoid cotton)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Long-sleeved t-shirts made from merino wool or thin synthetic fabric, to wear as a baselayer to wick moisture away from your body<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Thin leggings (merino wool or synthetic) to wear as a baselayer and at night in your sleeping bag<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Thin gloves (fleece or similar) to wear alone or as a first layer under waterproof overgloves<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Comfortable hiking pants made from lightweight, quick-drying synthetic fabric<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Equipment<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>A mosquito net<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A duffle bag (90 L-105 L) to store your belongings during your trip<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A comfortable backpack (30 L-60 L) to carry your personal effects<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A well-insulated sleeping bag (synthetic or down insulation), rated for -5 \u00b0C to -10 \u00b0C<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A sleeping bag liner (silk or fleece) to add a few extra degrees of warmth to your sleeping bag<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A compact sleeping mat (and a repair kit)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A 1 L water bottle<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A 500 ml double-wall insulated stainless steel water bottle, so you can have a warm beverage at hand when you take breaks during the trek<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Sunglasses with good UVA\/UVB protection (and a retainer!)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A headlamp (more practical than a traditional flashlight as it keeps your hands free)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Earplugs<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Telescopic hiking poles<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Personal care and hygiene<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Mosquito repellent<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Toilet paper<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Lip balm with sun protection<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Sunscreen with SPF 45 or higher<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A washcloth and biodegradable soap<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A quick-drying chamois towel<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A small toiletry bag with the essentials: toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss, biodegradable soap and shampoo, antiperspirant, razor and shaving cream, etc.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A first aid kit packed with everything you need to tend to small wounds (scratches, cuts, blisters, etc.)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>For kayak
