Passed the backyard test!
My friend Tyler used this tent for his Europe backpacking adventure and he raved about it... so when I was looking at a good size, weight, price, etc., I went to him and he led me to this purchase. Nothing better then someone you know giving you a review. And I set it up in the yard and slept in it one night and liked it! Now the real test is out in the backcountry! I did take it with me and my other gear to see how it packs... piece of cake and very light! Happy with it thus far.
I used the solitaire tent on an 80km hiking trip through the Le Cloche Sillouette trail and found it durable, sufficient, yet also a bit of a burden.
The tents material held up to vigorous rubbing, and the bathtub floor is great as long as you are careful not to allow water to get inside the tent.
However, in order to avoid water entry during rain fall you must ensure the enclosing tarp portion of the tent is taught and lifted off the screening. This is done by making use of 12 included pegs. This is where the burden comes in. The tent can be set up quite quickly, but you do need to use ALL the pegs. On soft soil this is not a problem but it is difficult to get a foothold on rocky terrain.
The Canadian version has strong aluminum tent frame poles. That's a great component!
Final thought... probably the largest style Bivy you will find, but then again. Bivy styles should require as many pegs.
