I purchased this ammo while on sale, as it was a tremendous value (approx 5.3 cents) per round. It was just slightly cheaper than the infamous Golden Bullets. It is bulk, so you must take that into consideration - and Winchester's interpretation of quality standards I believe is still slightly ahead of Remington's Golden Bullet. Good qualities includes; reliable primers, consistent charges (rounds always seem up to spec- and a little hot), relatively clean (compared to Golden Bullets), and acceptable lead fouling. The accuracy seems excellent considering the price. The not so good attributes include; very inconsistent bullet crimping from batch to batch - you might get over 50 rounds in a row that had very loose and wobbly bullets - yet another batch are all tight and perfect. To make matters worse, the hollow point shape of the bullet is quite blunt and stubby - so your firearm must have a "perfect" feed path. The ultimate sour negative cherry on top, is the inconsistent bullet shape from batch to batch. Sometimes the bullet was round, sometimes oval, sometimes dented or squashed - sometimes perfect.
I never had issues with the casings (cracking or expansion), or failure to extract - but several issues with just getting the round to chamber. Bullet heads would sometimes get crushed, and leave small chips of copper plating behind - further causing more jamming. Depending upon the feed path mechanism of your particular .22, you might either hate the 222s or find them acceptable. They worked fine in my Marlin 795 oddly enough, and perfect in my lever actions, but were most problematic in my magazine fed bolt actions - something totally unexpected.
I rate these rounds as a 2.5 out of 5 stars, with 1 star for reliability and 4 stars for value. Still worth a try over Golden Bullets.
