Schlappen are long heavily webbed hackles from the base of the rooster saddle. Schlappen is ideal for collars on steelhead and salmon flies. It can also be used for tails, legs, palmered hackle, spey hackle, beards, throats and wings. The softer Schlappen feather fibers move easily in the water. When wrapped as a collar, they flow back naturally over the fly.
